Cancer: An Epic Battle
Cancer is a difficult and sensitive topic to discuss. This disease has been prevalent amongst our human race for years, and it unfortunately shows no sign of slowing down. In the U.S. alone, there has been roughly 1,638,910 new cases of cancer this year in 2012. Cancer is a mutation in the DNA which leads to abnormal cell generation caused by various elements ranging from the pollution of our air and water to our diets even the conditions of our workplace.
Cancer is not a disease that can be caught. Cancer isn't caused by a foreign born pathogen entering the body like E. coli or HIV. This obviously means that their is no vaccine to prevent it and no antibiotics to cure it. So then cancer, in a sense, is the body battling itself. This now makes things a bit more complicated because think about it, if your competing against someone who has been on the same team as you your whole life they will be familiar with all your tricks. However, our bodies aren't totally helpless against this enemy. Our bodies contain specialized cells that seek out and destroy cancer cells via the immune system. Furthermore, by consuming certain foods which contain specific vitamins, minerals and other constituents we can inhibit the effects of carcinogens on our cells and help preserve its DNA from mutations.
So then, wouldn't be wise to equip our bodies with the organic components needed to fight this battle rather than crippling our bodies with man made toxins that are incapable of targeting only the enemy? I believe that our bodies have the ability to eliminate this disease, however, our bodies may just simply lack the natural components they need for combat, which can be found in, but not limited to, the herbs/oils mentioned in Gabriel Furman's journals.

Natural Cancer Killers
Sheep Sorrel (Rumex acetosella)
Sheep sorrel is a weed common throughout most of North American. This plant is also one of the four vital herbs found in essiac tea (a powerful tea used to treat chronic illnesses) due to to its healing properties. In fact, former chiropractor and author of "Calling of an Angel", Dr. Gary L. Glum, stated in an interview that sheep sorrel is the main ingredient in essiac responsible for the termination of cancer cells. In addition, Dr. Glum also stated how in 1937 the Royal Cancer Commission concluded that "essiac was(is) indeed a cure for cancer."
Sheep sorrel is rich in cancer preventive vitamins and contains four anti-mutagenics which inhibit the generation of cancer cells by protecting the DNA of healthy cells. Furthermore, with it's four antioxidants sheep sorrel aids in ridding the body of its free radicals. This is essential because free radicals are the harmful 'debris' that float around our cells. So by eliminating these free radicals our cells are protected from damage , especially and most importantly damage to the DNA. As further proof to its anti-tumor properties, a study conducted by the Department of Pharmaceutical Botany at Medical University, confirmed that the cytotoxic activities of Rumex species such as Rumex acetosella (sheep sorrel) supported the traditional use of its extracts for the treatment of cancer.

Cleavers (Galium verum)
Cleavers or also known as clivers are common in North America, Europe, China, and in Australia. This herb has been well known for its medicinal uses for centuries. Cleavers contain many holistic properties properties beneficial to the whole body. This herb has been proven to be an anti-inflammatory, blood detoxifier, diuretic, and used to heal wounds. As a detoxifier, cleavers help drain the lymphatic system. This is important because cancers can spread to other parts of the body by invading into our lymph vessels, so regular flushing of these vessels can help prevent the spread of cancer to distant areas of the body. Cleavers also contain many beneficial constituents such as citric acid, organic acid, fatty acids, flavonoids, tannins and various others. As further evidence to its cancer curing properties, cleavers have shown to have anti cancer activity according to the Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology. From extracting Diosmetin (DGVL) from the herb they found that it can inhibit tumor growth.

Olive Oil
Olive oil is infamously one of the healthiest oils out there. Olive oil is well known for its benefits for our hair and skin, however, not so many may known of its benefits towards cancer. In fact, there has been research proving that olive oil does have anti cancer properties.
A 2008 study conducted by Escrich and associates concluded that “compelling evidence exists about the protective effect of olive oil consumption on the appearance and progression of some cancers, mainly those of the breast, colon, and prostate. Both its main monounsaturated fatty acid, OA (oleic acid), and some specific minor components could account for the biological effects of olive oil on the distinct stages of carcinogenesis through different molecular mechanisms of action.” Oleic acid is one of the main components in battling cancer for it encourages the destruction of "aggressive, treatment resistant cancers." Furthermore, lab research also showed that oleic acid drastically inhibited the increase in oncogene, Her-2 which resulted in apoptotic cell death of breast cancer cells with Her-2. In addition, olive oil is also abundant in antioxidants and also contain a sufficient amount of squaleme- the most potent inhibitor of angiogenesis. With this inhibition, tumors aren't able to generate a sufficient blood supply and eventually starve and die.
